Cutting a straight line would require holding the saw at an angle, and using an edge guide would cause the blade to bind in the kerf, and at higher plunger speeds would likely cause charring of the workpiece. I spoke with Bosch tech support, thinking that there might be some reason that a bit of twist necessary for a straight cut (similar to the way a single engine prop aircraft has its engine mounted with a slight rightward and downward thrust angle), but the representative assured me that the blade should be aligned parallel to the cut.
I'm sending the saw back and hoping for a replacement that is correctly assembled, at which time I'll amend the review.
